The Ancient Secret of Success
There is an ancient secret to success.
Thousands of years ago, our ancestors were practicing this magical idea to enhance their prosperity, health, relationships, and fulfillment.
It doesn't get talked about much anymore - perhaps it's a hidden secret.
Want to know what it is?
The ancient secret of success is this:
WAKE UP. DO YOUR LIFE'S WORK CONSISTENTLY OVER AND OVER AGAIN WITHOUT MAKING EXCUSES. GO TO SLEEP. REPEAT
That's the secret.
Yet how many people do you see falling for the "MAGIC BULLET" recipe for success? Just buy our special product, and all of your problems melt away. You will INSTANTLY get into great shape. You will IMMEDIATELY become more successful and prosperous. You will QUICKLY get the woman of your dreams!
The idea we receive through marketing is often this: "There is a way to escape and avoid the necessary hard work to have what you want. Our solution gives you just that. So buy our solution, stop working as hard, and relax."
Working as a life coach, I have experience talking to clients about this. With coaching, my goal is to constantly push you back into the work even when there's resistance. I hold you accountable to waking up earlier, putting in some extra hours, and pushing yourself harder. We say we're willing to do these things, and yet when the rubber meets the road, few of us are.
I have a conversation every now and then with a client that wants to quit coaching.
It usually goes like this:
CLIENT: I'm still looking for some other programs out there. I think I want to take a break from coaching and learn some new stuff.
ME: Education is always important. It's great that you're willing to learn more. Who holds you accountable to actually implementing the information, though?
CLIENT: Well I guess I will.
CLIENT: When I can get around to it.
Fast forward to me checking up on the former client:
ME: So how have you been? How did the programs go?
CLIENT: They were good.
ME: How different has your life gotten since learning the new information?
CLIENT: (awkward shuffling sound over the phone) Ummm...it's getting there.
ME: Specifically, how?
CLIENT: I mean...I'm still looking at programs. Haven't found the right one.
ME: Hmm...perhaps you haven't found the "right one" because it doesn't exist. Perhaps the solution all along was for you to stay consistent with your habits to stay in ACTION.
See, that weak part of us (the Inner Gremlin as I affectionately call him) wants to weasel out of doing the work whenever it can. It creates a beautifully eloquent excuse from taking action in the form of "more research is necessary" or my favorite "I'm not quite ready yet."
These are all weak apologies for getting uncomfortable, working hard, and staying consistent. You're never fully ready. There is always more research that can be done (heck, no matter how smart you are, there are still billions of things you are clueless about). There are always going to be other programs and seminars and books and video courses and audio guides and INSERT NEW PRODUCT HERE competing for your attention.
But the ancient secret of success is so simple: just do the work.
Take action on a consistent basis. Don't allow any excuses to throw you off course. Now - definitely make corrections, adjustments, and implement new strategies into your plan. But never forget: when you start making moves AWAY from your goals and into "stopping all progress so I can learn more" territory, you're just making up a lame story.
I'll end this post with one of my recent quotes I gave to a client:
"The more persistent you are, the more consistent you are in attacking your dreams. For every failure, mis-step, or rejection you receive that sends you one step back, make two aggressive steps forward. Show the universe you mean business and it will give you all the business you can handle."
Food for thought.
